He has consulted on cases involving alleged rape and internet child pornography. Dr. Beckson has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of sexual disorders, including sexual addiction and paraphilias. He is consulting psychiatrist for the Sexual Recovery Institute in Los Angeles. Alcohol and Drug Abuse Dr. Beckson has treated over two thousand addicts dependent on cocaine, amphetamines, heroin, pain medication, and/or alcohol since 1991. He is board certified in Addiction Psychiatry and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Beckson has founded and directed alcohol and drug treatment programs (both in- & out-patient). He is experienced in individual, group, and medication therapies for detoxification and rehabilitation. Dr. Beckson conducted research in medication treatment of heroin and crack cocaine abuse, as well as brain imaging of crack cocaine addicts under the auspices of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Stalking Dr. Beckson belongs to the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals. He has diagnosed and treated Presidential threateners detained by the U.S. Secret Service as well as celebrity stalkers detained by the FBI and the LAPD Threat Management Unit. He is well versed in the involuntary hospitalization and treatment of dangerous individuals under the State of California mental health laws. Violence and Suicide Dr. Beckson has treated over one thousand violent and suicidal individuals. He is highly experienced in clinical risk assessment and the use of California mental health law in coercive treatment of involuntary patients, and he frequently testifies in Department 95 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court. Dr. Beckson is the Medical Director of the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit of the VA Greater Los Angeles Health Care System. He teaches evaluation and risk assessment to UCLA psychiatric residents. Therapist Misconduct and Malpractice Dr. Beckson has extensive expertise in ethical and boundary issues in addiction treatment and psychotherapy.
